Overview
Thirsty for rest, wilderness and cosy companionship – Orchard Cottage is there to hold you as you walk in and lay your bags down. Rusty red fells are visible from the window beckoning you on hearty adventures and yet you are scooped up in a warm and dry house with underfloor heating, extra-long baths and a sizzling wood burner. Flump down into a Super King sized bed bolstered with the thickest goose down mattress topper and run a soothing steamy soak for yourself. Read a book curled up on one of several soft landing places, or gaze out of the window at passing cows and sheep. Find yourself recentred and restored.

Restore your mind and body
Make the most of each sun ray and eat outside on padded wooden seats in a flower-filled patio, hoist up a hammock between the orchard trees or laze in the mossy grass. Let daffodils tower over you and keep an eye out for the resident hedgehog! You can walk from Orchard Cottage to Ullswater Lake (50 mins) through local woodland or set off down the lane in the direction of your heart’s desire. Hopping in your car will bring you to the base of whichever rugged Wainwright you wish to clamber up (Wainwright was a renowned local draughtsman and writer, who drew and wrote about local fells in meticulous detail).
Food and conversation
The open plan kitchen invites lounging and chatting, thanks to a sumptuous sofa in an alcove and a plump armchair well-positioned for birdwatching and reflection. The drawing room makes you want to dust off your paints and try your hand at watercolours while perched on the raspberry pink bay window cushions. The orange glow of the wood burner draws you to pause and be mesmerised by flickering flames and dancing shadows. The supportive round of chairs and sofas beckon you into an evening of sharing, singing and unfolding, deepening conversation before succumbing to the softest of sleeps.
Master Bedroom
The master bedroom has a view over a rolling field and healthy woodland. An inset window bay window with a thick gingham cushion suggests a time to chat as you unpack. Ukrainian oil paintings hang over Indian mother of pearl chest of draws, flanked by hand-decorated chairs. Soft hues of pink and green are the palette of this generously sized bedroom with a Super King bed draped in a hand printed bed cover.
The heart-warming yellow ensuite bathroom has two sinks and an extra-long bath with heavenly shape fitted below timber-frame window with a young climbing hydrangea asserting itself slowly around the edges. Golden leaf lampshades bring a smile to your face as you slowly receive the charming details that this house as in store for you.
